| Capability | Status | Details | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Store setup | |||
| Generate storefront previews from a business description | Supported | A preview isn't a store until you claim it; it can include sample content. | |
| Claim a preview as your own Shopify store | Supported | Starts signup. After claiming, the tool isn't connected to the new store until you authorize it. Workaround: Authorize access to the new store before asking the bot to change it. | |
| Suggest business names and domain names | Supported | Domain purchase happens through Shopify, not by the bot. | |
| Read store info (name, domain, plan, currency, time zone) | Supported | ||
| Switch to another store you own | Supported | An older conversation can keep using the previous store's connection. Workaround: Start a new conversation after switching stores. | |
| Products | |||
| Create a product with variants, options and inventory tracking | Supported | If you only give a name and price, the connector writes the description itself. | |
| Update title, description, status, images, variant prices or SKUs | Supported | Needs write access. | |
| Rename variant options (e.g. color or size names) | Supported | ||
| Search the catalog or open one product | Supported | Read-only. | |
| Set product status (active/draft/archived) in bulk | Supported with limits | Batches of up to 50, by name or by collection. Workaround: For larger sets, run several batches or use bulk edit in Shopify admin. | |
| Browse sample products for a category | Supported | ||
| Collections | |||
| Create manual or smart collections and publish them | Supported | ||
| Update a collection's title, description, image, sort order or rules | Supported | ||
| Add products to an existing collection; search or open collections | Supported | ||
| Inventory | |||
| Check stock for every variant across locations | Supported | Read-only. | |
| Set available quantity at one location, with a reason | Supported | Reads the count first and stops safely if it changed in the meantime. Each change covers one item at one location. | |
| Orders | |||
| List recent orders with totals and payment/fulfillment status | Supported with limits | Up to 50 at a time. Read-only. Workaround: Ask by number, date or status to narrow results. | |
| Open one order: line items, fulfillment, shipping address, tracking | Supported | Read-only. | |
| Edit, refund or cancel an order | Not supported | The connector reads orders but doesn't change them. Workaround: Use Shopify admin. | |
| Issue refunds | Not supported | Blocked even when you approve write access. Workaround: Use Shopify admin. | |
| Cancel or capture orders, or mark orders as paid | Not supported | Blocked even when you approve write access. Workaround: Use Shopify admin. | |
| Process returns | Not supported | Blocked even when you approve write access. Workaround: Use Shopify admin. | |
| Customers | |||
| Look up customers by name, email, location or tag, with order count and spend | Supported | Read-only. | |
| Edit a customer record | Not supported | Customer records are read-only. Workaround: Use Shopify admin. | |
| Discounts | |||
| Create percentage-off discount codes (store, products or collection; min purchase, start date, eligibility) | Supported | Asks you to confirm start date and who can use it. | |
| Edit an existing discount code | Not supported | Creates codes but doesn't change existing ones. Workaround: Use Shopify admin. | |
| Create fixed-amount discounts | Not supported | Only percentage-off codes. Workaround: Use Shopify admin. | |
| Create or adjust gift cards | Not supported | Blocked even when you approve write access. Workaround: Use Shopify admin. | |
| Analytics | |||
| Answer sales, orders, product, customer and fulfillment questions | Supported | Runs ShopifyQL. In Grok Bot, results come back as text only (no tables or charts). | |
| Complex questions with many comparisons and filters | Supported with limits | Layered questions can fail or return hard-to-read results. Workaround: Ask one short question at a time, then follow up. | |
| Theme | |||
| Edit an unpublished theme | Supported | ||
| Edit, publish or delete your live theme | Not supported | Your live theme is off-limits. Workaround: Duplicate the theme in admin, let the bot edit the copy, then publish it yourself. | |
| Settings | |||
| Change plan, payments, taxes or domains, or finish launch setup | Not supported | Shopify says a connected AI tool can't change settings such as your plan, payments, taxes, or domains, and that your Shopify admin is still required for payments, taxes, domains, and launch readiness. Workaround: Do these steps in Shopify admin. | |
| Pages & content | |||
| Pages, blogs, navigation menus, metafields, markets and translations | Supported with limits | No dedicated action. It goes through the Shopify Admin API and asks you to confirm first. Results vary more. Workaround: Review what it built in Shopify admin before relying on it. | |
| Help | |||
| Search Shopify's documentation | Supported | ||
| Bulk work | |||
| Change many items at once | Supported with limits | Changes items one at a time. A big batch can stop partway, and some actions cap the number of items. Workaround: If a batch doesn't finish, complete it in Shopify admin. | |
| Access | |||
| Write to your store without write access | Not supported | Read-only unless you approve write access. It's also limited by the staff account's permissions. Some actions are read-only by design. Workaround: Approve write access only for what the bot needs. | |
| Connect more than one store at the same time | Supported with limits | One store at a time, even within the same organization. Switching disconnects the current store and starts a new authorization. Workaround: Ask the bot to connect a different store, then start a new conversation. | |
| Lower an access level you already approved | Not supported | You can't reduce an approved data access level in place. Workaround: Uninstall the integration in Shopify admin, then install it again with less access. | |
| Revoke the bot's access to your store | Supported | Uninstall the integration from your Shopify admin at any time; the tool can then no longer read or edit store data. | |
| Connect with your own API access token or custom integration | Not supported | Shopify says to use the official integration for each AI tool and not to create an API access token or build your own integration. Workaround: Install the official Shopify connector from Grok Bot's Connect apps. | |
| Install | |||
| Install from the Shopify App Store | Not supported | Not on the App Store. In Grok Bot, open Connect apps and search Shopify. Installing it in Grok doesn't install it in Grok Bot. Workaround: Install it separately in each product. | |
| Use on desktop web and mobile | Supported | Desktop web browser and Grok mobile app. | |
| Tips | |||
| Make sure the connector is used | Supported with limits | If you don't name Shopify, or the connector is off, Grok may just give you instructions. Workaround: Say 'Shopify' in the request and confirm the connector is on. | |

Quick tips from Shopify's docs
- Say "Shopify" in your request so Grok uses the connector instead of giving you instructions.
- Ask one thing at a time, especially analytics questions.
- In Grok Bot, install it from Connect apps. Installing it in Grok doesn't add it to Grok Bot.
- In Grok Bot, results come back as text, not charts.
